How to Stay Motivated to Exercise

Exercising on a regular basis seems to come so easily for some people, but for others it can be much harder. If you want to become fitter and lose weight but always seem to think up excuses not to exercise here are some ideas on how to stay motivated to exercise:

Plan for exercise

If you plan when you will be exercising you will not have the excuse that yo

u don’t have time. Exercising at home also means that you don’t have to travel, which will cut down the amount of time you are spending to just the time that you are exercising. Write down the days and times you will be exercising on a calendar and you will be more likely to be motivated.

Exercise with a friend

If you have someone else who is spurring you on it can do wonders for your motivation levels. When you are not feeling like exercising your friend can get you going and you can do the same for them. You can see your sessions together as getting fit and spending some time together where you can have a catch-up and a laugh at the same time. Many people also feel less likely to abandon exercise sessions if they have arranged to do it with someone else.

Have a weekly weigh in

If you weight yourself and take the measurements of your hips, waist, chest, thighs and arms you will be able to see that as well as losing weight you are losing inches as well. Many people who think that they have not lost weight or inches get a surprise when they weigh and measure themselves and this can be a great motivational tool. So decide on a day of the week when you will do this and stick to it. You will quickly see that your exercise has been valuable to you and this will help you to be motivated whenever you don’t want to exercise at home or outside.

However, avoid measuring yourself every day as you won’t lose weight every single day. Measuring yourself day after day can actually lead to lower motivational levels on days where your weight hasn’t fallen.

Reward yourself when you do well

Treat yourself to a new pair of shoes, a book, a relaxing bath with music and candles – whatever you like to indulge yourself in, whenever you have lost half a stone or a set amount of inches. You will find that doing this gives you a double boost – not only have you lost weight or become slimmer, you will also get a treat that you really have deserved. Make sure that you do this and you will find that you get even more from each exercise session that you undertake.

Make sure you eat and drink properly

When you are hydrated and not tired and hungry you will be in a much better mood to exercise. By eating the right foods and drinking plenty of water you will actually have more energy which you can put to good use by exercising. Exercising whilst hungry is very de-motivating and takes a lot of willpower to do.
