It is normal to think that fat is bad for our health. However, this becomes a serious mistake, especially when you do not consume enough fat.
Unlike what many people tend to think, the truth is that fat is an essential nutrient for our body, as important as proteins and carbohydrates, as they are essential to fulfilling certain functions of our body, as they:
- Build cell membranes
- nerve tissue
They provide essential fatty acids, which are involved in child development and growth. They help transport and digest vitamins A, D, E and K.
Fatty acids are involved in blood clotting & the regulation and control of blood pressure. It is therefore clear that fats are essential for our body.
But do we really have to avoid fats, are there any Good fats?
There are some types of fats that can be good for you, like trans-fats. The idea is to avoid trans fats and integrate fats in your meals.
It might be very hard to do that at first, but with the right approach you will see that nothing is impossible!
So, how much fat should you eat per day?
Diet variation is the key. Some 30% of energy comes from fat while supporters of the ketogenic diet say that around 70-75% of all energy should come from fat.
The paleo, ketogenic and metabolic diet all get similar if not identical results the key thing isnt so much about how much fat to eat, the main thing is that you are eating clean.
All diets have there limitations and sticking to one diet for a long period of time can affect your health, also you have to try to understand what is best for your genetics.
It all comes down to checking on the nutritional value of each diet and figuring out its demands. Granted, it will be a challenge at first, but with the right approach nothing is impossible!
What type of fats should we eat?
Unsaturated fats can be great because they allow you to improve the blood cholesterol levels, they can stabilize your heart and they can even ease inflammation.
You can found these in foods that originate from plants. You will find two different categories here. You have the monounsaturated fats, which can be found in avocados, sesame and pumpkin seeds, nuts and olives or peanuts.
You also have the polyunsaturated fats that can be found in fish, canola oil, flax seeds, walnuts, sunflower and soybean or corn.
Omega-3 fats can be included here as well. The idea is you can eat these fats often, but eating too much can cause an imbalance and they might do more harm than good.
So you should opt for these two types of unsaturated fats such as fish oil for example, but do that with self-control.
Saturated fats are also healthy for the human bod. The best sources are animal fats. Despite the fact that some think animal fats might cause an added weight, that’s not really the case.
The idea here is that these are good fats, it comes down to what we feed the animal.
Grass-fed animals will always have great saturated fats, but if you feed the animal something it was not meant to eat, then obviously you are the one creating bad animal fats.
Fats are misunderstood!!
There are lots of fat types out there, you just need to find the right ones that suit your body’s needs. Omega-3 fats for example are very healthy.
As long as you talk with a nutritionist and limit the amount of good fats you eat, you should be more than ok on your road to losing weight fast!
